The Bioeconomy Science Institute’s student internship programmes 2025-2026

The Bioeconomy Science Institute’s student internship programmes are open for applications. Traditionally available through the four groups individually, this year marks the first year under the new entity, providing even more opportunity for rangitahi Māori to gain exposure to Aotearoa New Zealand’s science community.

“Te Puāwaitanga: Offered by the AgResearch Group, Te Puāwaitanga provides supported opportunities for tauira to co-design their research projects alongside supervisors and Kairangahau. AgResearch provide a range of opportunities for students in agricultural systems

Poipoia kia rere: The internship provides opportunities to work on a project across a wide range of sciences to support delivery of science for our land and our future. They are for 25 hours per week.

Te Rito: Offered through the Plant and Food Research Summership, Te Rito enables tauira Māori to gain hands on experience through projects in horticulture, seafood, food innovation, and sustainability, weaving science with Mātauranga Māori.

Scion Summer Students: Help shape the future of forestry, renewable materials, and the circular bioeconomy. Scion Group specialises in research, science and technology development for the forestry industry, wood products and wood-derived materials. We lead new technology development for renewables, bioproducts and energy and the establishment of a broader-based circular bioeconomy.
